The challenge
Customers knew their car, not their battery.
Most shoppers arrive knowing the year, make and model of their vehicle, or the piece of equipment that needs power, but not the battery group size or specs. A standard product catalog made them guess, and a wrong guess meant a return or a phone call.
Behind the scenes, the catalog spanned many product lines and applications, so the fitment data had to be structured carefully enough to power fast, accurate search.
The approach
How I tackled it.
-
Model the fitment data
Structured application data so every battery knows which vehicles and equipment it fits.
-
Build the finder
A year, make and model search plus equipment lookups, powered by fast AJAX queries that narrow results as you choose.
-
Polish the path to buy
Product pages with clear specs and compatibility, and a checkout tuned for a smooth purchase.
What I built
Search that starts where the customer starts.
- Vehicle and application search Pick year, make and model, or browse by equipment type, and see only batteries that fit.
- Spec-rich product pages Group size, cranking amps and compatibility shown up front so customers buy with confidence.
- Custom WooCommerce build A store built around the client’s catalog rather than squeezed into a template.
- Sales reporting Order data connected to dashboards so the team can see what’s selling.
The results
What changed.
Shoppers go from their vehicle to a compatible battery in a few clicks, instead of guessing at part numbers.
- Search by vehicle or equipment Customers start with what they know.
- Right-fit results Only compatible batteries are shown. The client’s first online ordering, with a fitment check built in.
- Faster path to checkout Fewer steps from landing to purchase.
